Self Interest

 

Nothing wrong with self-interest. If we are not interested in ourselves, who would be? If we do not look out for what is best for us, who will?  Self Interest taken to self importance is a fine line.  Get them before they get you is and idiom we hear all the time. Look where it has gotten us.

    And how often do others accuse one of self-importance when one is practising self-interest? OFTEN. Especially if one is female. Putting one's own interests on the same level as the interests of others is considered selfish ... when you're a woman, or a mother. I've fought this attitude and still do. -Kate

    Self-care is a practice, self-importance is simply self-indulgence.
