Need vs Want

The last few days sitting around nursing a cold I have been grateful for all that I have. Everything I needed to care for myself and allow my body to heal was and is available.  Home, security, comfort, food, heat, water companionship (Kitty) books. I was not pressed to take care of anything or anyone other than myself. My needs were and are taken care of. I have wanted for nothing. A good reminder of my needs versus my wants. This painting of The Garden of Eden by Thomas Cole offers the same, home food, companionship, but Eve wanted more. Want, want, want, want, I want what I want. Thomas Cole also painted at same time Expulsion from the Garden of Eden. The Wants unsettle us.  Realizing that I am safe and secure in my own way means The World to me. More sure, but I don't need it.

Core beliefs

There are all manners of living beings in the world. Don't discount those that do not fit into our preconceived view point. Fear can block us and then we miss out on so many people, places, and things. We are the World.

The World

I saw this image of The World but do not know which deck it originates from to give credit.  I love this image of The World.  When the time comes that we realize that we are who we are and are okay with it.  I am feeling that way the last couple of days.  Away from deadlines and commitments, I have gotten back in touch with myself. Everyday I am reminding myself just how much that I have to be grateful for. I am so grateful to be grateful.

Blessed Be.

Happy dance

Big or small, celebrate those moments when everything seemingly  comes together and The World seems wonderous. Actually the World is always wonderous, but there are days when it seems not. Today is for joining the World Dancer and enjoy.

M.P.H.

How fast does The World spin? About a 1000 mph. Pretty fast, so fast that this World Dancer lost her clothes. Life can move along at a pretty fast clip some days, so fast that what we think and feel can get distorted by the spin. Thank goodness for gravity.  Our trip around the Sun only has about 37 days left to it this year. Don't know what 2021 will bring, but hold on to your clothes, the ride could get bumpy. Starting back at the Fool we all might just fall off the cliff.

Reflect - Review

Pippin: "It's so quiet."

Gandalf: "It is the deep breath before the plunge"

Standing at the edge of forest, reflection on the passage through reminds me of the above quotes. I wonder what waits ahead.  There is shimmering magic there at the portal from the forest to what is next. Best grab some of that for my travel pack.

Culpability

I woke up earlier and turned on the tv and PBS had a documentary on the some of the planetary changes going on. "Humans are the driving force of major changes to the planet's ecosystem." As the Earth has gone through cycles of change and upheaval, the scientists have given names to those cycles. The current cycle, Anthropocene, because we are in the Age of Humanism. We are the change and it is not good. Other cycles took millions of years and we will manage to do it in a few generations.  I believe the Universe or the Great Mother will have to step in a take control.  Maybe COVID was the wake-up call we did not answer, the time-out we didn't take. As a child when punished, it was a time out in the corner or the room, maybe even no dinner, or two weeks of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. If we did not learn our lesson the punishment was severe. I fear Mother Nature is not happy with her gifts of nature and the World and we will soon have to answer.

Synthesis

And just like that a piece of the puzzle fell into place.  Yesterday I experienced a situation that normally would have plunged me into fear, scattering my sense of well-being in the day.  We all experience it, a moment when things go hay-wire, car breaks down, washer stops in mid-cycle, a family member calls and has a situation.  The list can be endless to those distractions that interrupt our lives.  Normally I go to the panic mode, not yesterday.  I realized that I could handle it, as I have always done, but this time without the drama and worry.  The trick now is to not go with what normally feels 'right' and reactive; the laments of "why me".  The World teaches us 'why not you' and then continues to spin.  Can't jump off, so go with it.  I have dealt with more difficult things in my life.

Intimidation

The Dancer seems to have used intimidation to get her way and control those around her.  The dragon is meant to frighten all comers.
I am guessing that sometimes we have to use whatever means are available to accomplish what needs to be done.  Sometimes, not all the time.  Then it would just be an abusive situation dealt out by a bully.  All bullies are cowards.
I don't really have to watch out for anyone today, since I am going no farther than looking out the front door.  Wait, there is technology; a window into my World.

Be

As I looked over the card I wondered when was the last time I danced around naked and happy?  I realized it was probably when I was about ten months old.  I spent a good deal of my life being or trying to be what others wanted or expected.  The days of my life that I didn't conform I was labeled odd and weird.  Odd and weird, I like that.  If being me is odd and weird I am ready to wear that label.  Just as soon as I finish stripping away the rest of others expectations.
Let the dance begin.

Review

Today I see the Dancer glancing back and it reminds me the year is coming to its end.  Three weeks or so we will change out our calendars as a new year and a new decade begin.  The decade thing is a point of perception; some see zero years as an end and others see it as the beginning.  I have always seen it as a beginning, considering the day I was born was day zero and the next was a celebration of completing a day.  So it is a time of review, not just about the year that is completing but end of a decade.  It is not a completion of a decade in my calendar life, but the World in general.  Where did we start in 2010, mostly coming out of the recession and rebuilding.  So what has been rebuilt?  In my life, community, the nation, the World?

Food for thought

I recently was reading about the three lines of cards in the Major Arcana.  Line three is about Light. Beginning with the absence of Light in the Devil to the Spiritual Enlightenment found in The World. I hadn't really thought about the last seven cards and the presence of the luminaries, the Sun and the Moon, both of which are present in this card of the The World Tree. Another venue of study for my continued work with the Tarot.
Also, since I have gone on and on about apples the last couple days, The World Tree might also be compared to the Apple Tree, which was where the Fruit of Wisdom was plucked by Eve in the Garden of Eden.
Back to eating an apple a day for me, that is after a get my broken tooth repaired today. A left over remembrance of my vacation last week.

Our choice

We each hold the future of Earth in our hands.  It is a lovely vision to have a benevolent benefactor looking after the World, but in truth, it is us.  It has to be each and everyone of us.  The Earth will continue, but Life as we know it is on the brink.
For today, and should be everyday, I will try to remember to make the loving choice.  Begin with myself and go from there.

Observation

Sometimes it is best to stand still and let events pass by and remain in awareness.  Wisdom can be found in being a witness.

One does

One does what one must.
Yesterday The Wheel, going up and down,
Today The World, going round and round.
I am saddened by so many who have lost their way in opiod addiction.  I know several and have known several others that got caught up in the cycle and never found their way out.  I could have been one of those and still may be. Pain and escape from feeling.  Blaming the drug companies, sure, but we must look at what brought us to this crisis. Sadness, despair, the evening news.  I am just a second away from turning off the t.v. and never watching it again. The World turns but do we have to have everything thrown in our face, day after day?

Relection sparks memories

I drew the World again today and since she is looking back I thought I would draw the next card on the deck. Look how the two gaze at each other. Yesterday's World draw had me thinking of a childhood issue and today looking back to see that there were also simple times behind me and some of them full of chasing bunnies to wonderland.  The Rabbit in the Two of Wands has the World with her.  This paring deserves more study.  Maybe I will pull similar cards from other decks for comparison.

Post it notes

It has been a little over sixty-one years since I have experienced this carefree freedom from constraint.  As a baby, just a yearling running naked through the house.  There was a moment that I was shamed at just about the age of one and I have held that something something with me since then.  It eases as I age and when I decide to leave the planet I will leave it behind, better yet, let it fall to ashes as I go, so that another will not pick it up.  We are the World and we too pick up bits of this and that  which cling to us during our journey.  As I work to par down stuff in my house I am also working on paring down the sticky ickies that are attached to me.

Symbols

I often wondered why Waite and other early Occultist placed the four symbols in the corners of The World and The Wheel?  Some say the Four Evangelist, the four Apostles, four symbols of the elements in astrology.   A few years back I visited the Monastery of the Sisters of St. Benedict, an hour or so west of where I live. My sister and I spent part of the day at the chapel and walked the grounds where the Stations of the Cross are located.  Growing up Catholic some of the symbology still speaks to me.  When we first arrived I was astounded to see the Four Apostles on the front of the main entrance. (below) Amazed again at something depicted in different faiths. Another example I think of how the Roman Catholic Church tried to incorporate the Mother Earth practitioners into the fold.  My favorite is St. Patrick chasing out the snakes of Ireland, a.k.a the catholic church forcefully removing the druids.
We need some of the 'Old Ways' to bring us back to the wholeness of The World.

Joy to the World

A Completed Cycle.
The World spins.
Life moves on.
One door closes another opens.
Thank goodness I get another day, to laugh, dance, eat Christmas goodies, to play with my adopted and now roommate cat, Miss Kitty, to walk in the park, count my blessings.
A New Year is in my sights from my perch on top of the World. Goody!

Do a little dance

Each day a new day and we chose what to do with it.  At the end of our day can we do a happy dance of gratitude for the day we were given?  Some days yes, other days no, and still others, I didn't know where the day went.  Today, just today, I will try to be mindful of my day. Tomorrow will take care of tomorrow.

You never know what good things will happen if you're brave enough to be All You, All The Time.
