Clean it up

It is hunting season in the area and on a lot of days you can hear the discharge of gun fire in the distance.  I know that the deer herds are over populated and hunting thins the the over population but I don't care for it.  Mostly I don't care for all the pictures of trophy kills and all the backslapping and boasting of the one that didn't get away.  I think most of the local hunters do use the meat and feed their families, but still I don't want to hear about it.   Is that hypocritical of me after eating turkey yesterday, maybe.  I guess that is something I have work on and figure out.  Maybe this card hints at that, clean up my own thinking before being critical of others.
I am grateful I had a good day with family yesterday and yes I enjoyed the turkey; I hope the second round of family festivities goes as well today.

  1. I agree with you about hunting. It is necessary here too, as we are overpopulated with deer. But to post photos on social media and to hang heads in one's house does not seem to honor the animal whose life was sacrificed.

    1. I can tell you from a real estate sales point of view; if there are dead animals hanging in the home, most buyers are put off and won't consider the home. For me if I see them in a home I will not show again.

  2. we both hunted in our 20s and 30s but not at all since then. We reached the stage in life where hunting got complicated by gear and vehicles and equipment and realized even though we missed the comrade of our hunting companions, killing live game was no longer in us. But when we still did, killing, skinning, cutting, packaging was part of our growing up. I have always thought stuffed heads was the height of the wrong side of humans.

  3. Even though hunting is necessary, I share your aversion towards it. I do eat meat but only if it is unrecognizable. I know it is a bit silly but denial is what prevents me from having to become a vegetarian.

    1. Every once in awhile I get bent out of shape about meat and go veggie for weeks or so at a time. Then summer comes along a burger sizzling on the grill makes me drool. If I had to go to the meat packing plant I probably would never eat meat again.
