Initiative

The Eight of Cups. Walk Away? Gather what you need, take the opportunity, and move on toward progress.

As a side thought to this deck, I cannot figure out how Doreen Virtue made the jump to doing artful work to demonizing it. This card is beautiful.

Focus

Changing directions, going to or from, watch where you place your next step. Sometimes (well a lot of times) we have to alter our course, a bit of care on how you proceed is always good advice.

Still waters, not

Appearances can be unreliable. What we think we see with our eyes may not tell the whole story. Reminds of a parable, 'believe none of what you hear and only half of what you see.'  The water looks to have a gentle flow, but beneath the surface there are eddies and currents. A person or situation that seems placid may in fact have all kinds of chaos happening beneath the surface. Change can be like that, a beginning with restlessness. You can ignore and stay with what is familiar and predictable or go ahead and immerse yourself in the change and see where it takes you.

Seek

Seek and you shall find.  Now is the time for me to ask myself if there is something missing in my life and then go look under every rock, check all the crannies and make sure I am watching for every possible lead.  Leave the what ifs behind and find what makes me happy.

Walk away

When it is time to go, it is time to go. I wrote the other day about leave-taking and change. Indecision of when and doubts about why can hinder us and we can linger too long.  We all can get to the place when enough is enough but how much better and easier the leave-taking would be if we followed our intuition when first prompted. I know there have been times when I heard myself say, "whew I should have done that sooner."

Cup-o-Matic

When seeking advice or counsel we are hopeful to find an insightful and caring individual. When we find one that just gives us canned responses as seen with this tea-leaf reader, best to just walk away.

Gentle observer

Sometimes things are beyond our ability. So much of my life I have tried to control and predict my destination through my days.  Am I here because of those paths that I traveled or am I at where I was going to be all along? Those detours I chose just made things more challenging and sometimes  more interesting.  I am thinking there will be much less stress and anxiety if I just go with the 'flow' and see where Life takes me.

Musing

I know that something is missing.  My focus has been so fixed, hoping for what seems to be missing, will reveal itself.  Not.  When do we give up and turn our gaze elsewhere for answers?
With covid chaos, now is not necessarily the best time to search or is it?  Today the Eight of Cups feels like The Fool many years down the road wondering if it is time to start a new journey.  As Bilbo Baggins exclaimed "I think I am quite ready for new adventure!"

Added caution

As we begin our odyssey to a different new normal, caution certainly is the new by-word. Leaving behind and letting go comfortable doings is going to be challenging. We are creatures of habit and all that change makes us itchy with the uncertainty.  Still the future beckons and we must make the journey.
Wherever you go there you are.  Choose wisely what we bundle and take with us in the...new, the next, whatever waits beyond.

View point

The author tells us that these are eight abandoned cups.  Maybe so, but whoever left them behind really cared for their special collection of cups.  Pretty and polished and stacked and left in order as they turned away.
Maybe something is working just fine, but there is this a knowing that change needs to me made. These days are filled with change, some good some and some not so good.  Work with the good ones and move on from there.

What one thing?

Yesterday's King had his eyes on the prize, now off to find that one thing that is needed to complete his task.  It looks like all the offerings in the Seven of Cups have been sorted through and experienced and even something more, and yet it isn't what the King was looking for.  What will need to be discovered that will bring him/me to the satisfaction of the Nine of Cups?  There was something recently read about getting what you thought you wanted and still experience dissatisfaction.  So the absence of those things are not the answer to happiness. Maybe the journey is what fills the ninth cup. Seek and you shall find.

The only other thing these eight cups makes me think of, is getting all your ducks in a row, impossible, I thought so too.

The only constant

Letting go of the last of my resistance.
Yesterday I was talking with one of my sisters, the one that still smokes.  She said she was ready to try again. When I quit it was one the most difficult things I have done.  I tried many times before I managed to give them up.  Now, many years later, the struggle doesn't seem like it was that hard, the struggle softened by time.
Letting go of something or someone whose time has passed is troubling, but once we can get beyond it or them, the change will do me/us good.
Change is in the air.

Moving On

Could you really trust someone like Cepheus who along with his wife Cassiopeia, sacrificed their daughter Andromeda?

I don't think so.  If someone approaches me today with some words of advice or a suggestion of some sorts, I will turn my shoulder of indifference and walk away.
"What's that you say? I don't think so!"

Carolyn has left the buidling

"...back to the place I was before" Hotel California

Another card of movement, yesterday's knight, today the Eight of Cups.  Maybe I got tired of the dog and pony show and took off on my own.   I am off for a few days of R&R so this card is appropriate for me as well as yesterday's knight.  With the lingering winter and my also lingering discontent with my career, time to take a break.  We all need to do that from time to time.  Mostly I escape into a good book; let the storyteller take me to another time and place and just so happens there is a book in my backpack.

Move along

Starfish and sea shells, jewels of the sea.

It saddens me when I go to the seashore and see people scoop up the starfish and sand dollars for prizes to take home.  They are living beings that will be no more, once taken from the sea.  I used to collect shells at the shore always checking that it did not have an inhabitant.  Now I don't, mostly because there are not many to collect.  Either too many have been taken from the shore or sea or the waster is so toxic that they no longer flourish.
With the Eight of Cups we journey on; hopefully by choice.

Review and Reflect

Last night I started reading a book on psychology that I picked up in the library.  In the first chapter the author writes "The seventeenth-century French philosopher Rene' Descartes sitting by the fire in his winter dressing gown, and looked into his own thought processes and reflected...cogito ergo sum, I think therefore I am."  This is the exact description of the King of Wands I drew yesterday, coincidence?  So I am reposting this King of Wands.
I drew the Eight of Cups this morning and I believe this is a continuation of  'cogito ergo sum'  -thinking a thing and making it so.

perplexed

There is much to consider, and in doing so, I have forgotten where I started?

I have been pondering this card off and on for several hours and not sure where to go with it.  My first thought was, 'well here is the bird that lost her feather the other day and "yes" she did miss it and has been keeping a watchful eye out for it, even on the rainy days.'  Next I wonder who in the house back on the hillside threw out all the cups - kinda of like the baby and the bathwater.  Maybe they mistakenly threw the cups out with the dishwater?  But no that cannot be since some cups are standing.  I think all eight cups were placed and with the rising river, some have begun to wash away.
I am going to keep this card in mind throughout my day.  I am on my way to a funeral and then a late afternoon open house.  Hopefully by days end my subconscious will work on the imagery and I will have more clarity.
All is not what it seems, it seems.

Look Up

Tonight's Night Sky

The last couple of evenings I have returned home after sunset.  We are experiencing clear skies and moderate temperatures in the area.  The night sky is stunning.  Venus is exceptionally bright and hanging out to the southwest of her is Mars.  The Earth is beginning her tilt as the season progresses towards Spring and I got a great glimpse of Sirius, the three stars on Orion's belt, the Little Dipper, and with a pair of binoculars a view of the Pleiades.  The Moon is in her waning stage so with the deeper darkness, the night sky is a wonder to behold.  Normally in February it is bone chilling out there and because I cannot tilt my head back anymore I miss the night sky's production.  I have caught some glimpses the last couple of evenings.  Tonight it will be fairly comfortable temperature wise and I plan on making a pallet on the driveway and stretch out and enjoy.
Forget the ordinary day to day things and get out there and experience the extraordinary.

Pack it up and move on.

This card speaks to me on several levels today.  First that moon and the walk through the snow.  Later today there is a full moon, around 5:33 est and this moon has a tag of a Full Snow Moon, mostly cause February is the snowiest month; though not here this year.  There will be an eclipse tonight and to top it all up, there in the sky so high, is a comet passing through.  So with all this motion and commotion I am guessing we best pay attention to what we think, say, and do.
I am working with a client and the only way to say it is, he is not the sharpest stick in the pile.  A year now I have been working with him and I am ready to be done with it.  Thing is he went through several agents the year before me, because he is a challenge.  If  I release him I don't think he will ever find a home of his own and I think everyone should have that opportunity.  I have to remind myself, it may in part be influenced by apathy to my career.  idk.
Now to tie the two together; how all that movement above influences my actions below.  "As above, so below"  maybe.
