Sustenance

The other day I read one of those silly questions that asked, 'if you had to choose just three items to eat for a month, what would they be?' Well bread would be one of those three for me. Bread was one of those things that got me and my siblings through our childhood. The shelves and the table may not have had much to offer in our home, but bread was always available. My Mother, bless her soul, did all she could to stretch a thin budget to feed all of us. She visited the Day Old Bread store a couple of times a week. Bread sustained us. PB&J, milk gravy on toast, egg sandwiches, more PB&J.  I don't remember Mother baking her own bread, mostly because she was so busy having babies and raising kids; Mother did pretty darn good, all things considered. It can be the simple things that nurture us, bread is a very good example. Maybe today I will have a cheddar cheese sandwich on crusty french bread. Yum.

Go with the Flow

The Empress reminds me today of a quote of Rumi's, one that I recently posted here and reread often.

"When I run after what I think I want, my days are a furnace of stress and anxiety; if I sit in my own place of patience, what I need flows to me and without pain. From this I understand that what I want also want me, is looking for me and attracting me. There is a great secret here for anyone that can grasp it."

Know thyself

I have deceived myself. An Empress should know herself. Heavy lays the crown if we are not sure what we have to work with. My deception is, I will never be friends with Winter. I told myself that I would accept and become friends with the cold and with 2 days of frigid temperatures, I acknowledge that I and Winter will never be on friendly terms.

Empress power

Later this afternoon I am going over to a couple of friend's home and they are grilling out. We are expecting a lovely November afternoon and just a few hours gabbing on the back porch enjoying each other's company and a nice meal.  I think I will pick up a bouquet of flowers. Empresses All!

No Thank You

Empress. Em-press, impress. This gal is all dressed up and no where to go. Perched on her throne see goes about doing empressy things. To rule a nation, a empire, a world takes all the motherly out of a gal. This Empress may have children, in fact it would be right at the top of her Empress's duties to bear children, but from there they are raised apart, with only a daily viewing.  Queen Victoria was an Empress with nine children and really had nothing to do with them other than photo ops and arrange marriages.  I watch and read some of the stories of royalty and think, 'who would want that kind of life?' Sure there is money, clothes, riches, travel, but it is all for show. A constrained life. Still, someone has to do it and "mother" her domain. For me my little corner of world is quite enough.

Flowers for Carolyn

The Empress has stopped by for a chat. She is here to remind to be grateful for all the wonderful things I have and done. I start a new trip around the Sun today so that starts my list. I started my day with a cupcake and wish. A wish for me. I think that self-importance was right up there with the seven-deadly-sins, but not so. I know that now. If we don't take care of ourselves who will?  Not an overblown ego thingy, but really positive self care. I am on my way out now for a lovely bouquet of flowers. That kind of self-care.

Bright and Beautiful Blessings

About five years ago I started this blog with the month of November and thirty days of Gratitude. I did not do thirty days of posts on gratitude this year. This last day of November seems a good moment to pause and pay tribute to the wonder of life. The good and the better far out-weigh the difficulties and challenges. The Empress reminds me of all the bounty and blessings in life. I could fill pages and pages instead I will just say "Thank You, I am truly grateful."

Perceptions

Looks like all is well on this lovely Sunday. Today even though I am having a few difficulties this morning, I will choose to focus on all the wonder. all the blessings, all the bounty that is in my life,  Focus on all the positives and all those little gnats of worry lessen.

Bright Blessings.

Oh look

Oh look, it's a baby!

New beginnings are happening all the time, everyday, usually without us even noticing.  I find myself wishing that my life was different, I was different. I need to realize new beginnings happen all the time.  So today I am different than yesterday. Yesterday's Seven of Cups hinted at choice, my choice yesterday was to do nothing. which was a choice as well.  Blink and it's a new day, a new beginning. A new day, all bright and shiny with promise.

A major pair

Two cards presented themselves this morning and what a power pair.  I don't often draw The Empress and with her second appearance in the last week or so, that gives me reason to pause. There will be time enough in the future for reflection, for today and these days to come, enjoyment of the here and now is the advice given.

Nuture

The Empress does not often stop by and she is almost always a puzzle to me.  I have been in a repeating loop of breakdowns.  My body has gone haywire and developed eczema, as I have self diagnosed.  I had a Zoom call with Nurse-practitioner several weeks back, no help.  In self-diagnosis I believe the rash and breakouts are irritations with job.  Then my car gave it up last weekend, and last night I woke up sweating, not Covid, A/C not working.  I kind of want my mother to whine too. I am guessing The Empress's visit is to console and nurture me.  A good pat on the back saying "there, there, everything is going to be all right."
Ninety degrees today. Whew wee, I am in the stew.

Hope springs eternal

Nature vs Nurture.  I think this child of magic is a combination of both.  I wonder how she will use her gifts as she matures?
Maybe I will liken her to the coming of the New Year and a New Decade.  Bright and full of promises.
She just may be the model baby for the Banner of the New Year!

Expectations

I am puzzled with this visit from the Empress.  My first thought when she appeared was 'Wowza'
Also I noticed apples, a continuation of the apples in the Four of Wands yesterday.  Did the Empress stop at their Farmers Market and collect some or did she gift them the bounty and kept a few for her continued journey?  As she ventures on, I see she is scattering apples along the way, seeding the next orchard.
Now that I think of it, she may be a visit from my Mother, who loved ducks and had a special bond with several when I was a child.  My parents wedding anniversary would have been October 21, and without that event I would not be here today.
Bright Blessings on this day of the Full Moon.

Beholder

Beauty lies in the eyes of the Beholder.
If we can learn to look beyond the superficial, what wonder is there to see.  If I can learn to look below my fear and anger to the wonder of Carolyn, good, great.  If I can do the same for others, Wowza!  Thank goodness I have today to give myself this opportunity.  Tomorrow maybe, but since tomorrow is not promised.
Grateful for another day.

"Labor" Day

Labor Day, the unofficial end point of Summer.  The days are quickly getting shorter as the Sun resists the horizon a bit more each morning and retreats sooner each evening.  I remember this day as an all out play day since school started the day after Labor Day when I was a young lass. It is going to be another 90° day here, a bit warm to play.  Still there is a grilled burger later today and a few card games, so all in all, a good day off.  Then anticipation for cooler days ahead.
Bright Blessings

Courage vs Confidence

New Ventures

Courage and Confidence are often considered the same.  I believe that Courage is the building block of Confidence so, maybe they have the same structure.  Like a child, somewhat the same as a parent, but different.  Beginning something new usually requires courage or desperation, but I will stick with courage.  I noticed the baby in the pea pod is wearing a magician's hat and is holding a magic wand.  It will take the child's courage to begin his life and take his first bold steps.  Courage to fall down and get back up and....a bit of magic always helps.

WOW

Day Three

This is the third day in a row that The Empress has visited.  I welcome her.  As my guest she can stay as long she wants.  If she is here to comfort and nurture, she can stay as long as she wants.  If she is here to be my friend, she can stay as long as she wants.  If she here to teach me, she can stay as long as she wants.  So glad of her company, I hope she stays with me a long while.

Extended Stay

She had more to say

Just now the above sentence popped in my head, something from yesterday's appointment.  The Empress has decided to extend her stay with me. Yesterday I had a late afternoon appointment with a woman who had saved my information for 8 years. She had so much too say and so little time to say it. Much of our conversation was about how wonderful she was. Still vibrant into her seventies she, I believe she has worn out her welcome with any friends. In my many years in sales I have never run across someone with such dressed up insecurities. I have met many who are lonely that needed someone to talk to you, she needed someone to talk at.
Does this Empress spend so much time out in nature to heal herself or isolate herself from such assaults?
