Green light

This Lover's card does not have an Angel offering a blessing. How often do we look to others for validation for ourselves?  It started as babies, cooing with happiness when Mother was delighted with us. Teachers giving us good grades. Promotions for a good job done. Permissions granted. I am leaving that all behind. I wonder what life would have been like if I lived more on my terms?  Today is still open to my own interpretation, I will take that.

Choose wisely

Choose wisely.  Given a choice most of us will choose the path of least resistance.  Time to rethink that.  Times ahead are going to be difficult.  Who or what will help us through the trials ahead?  What support will be the most beneficial?
Today I don't want to ask those questions of myself.  I am operating on almost no sleep and choices made when not well rested can be disastrous.  Just like decisions made in anger.  Best to put it off, until  the heart and mind can feel and think a thing through.

Chapter and verse

I had a bit of a challenging day yesterday.  Death reminded me from the ashes...
Today the Lovers.  If  the cards are looked as a triad, three lines of assent as some readers teach; Death comes below the Lovers. I find it interesting that looking up from Death there are the Lovers.  Maybe that is the rising mountain point in the backdrop.  Death levels the playing field between The Lovers above and Judgement below.
I really enjoy working with the Rider Waite-Smith deck, because each of the cards are a story unto themselves. Makes me think of books these days, more and more of them are trilogies, book 1,2,3...or more.  I wonder if it is for more money or they think the reading audience cannot read a longer story in a larger book?  The Tarot is like 21 stories in a very large book, and as The Fool, I can read and reread the stories I choose.  I love that!

Relationship

The one I need to really work at and more often than not leave till last, is me.  Mostly others have come first and then if there is time, I pay attention to me.  I think I am done with all that.  Me first.  Forget the selfless hype.
I noticed this last week how that many of the cards have featured the color Yellow.  Summer.  Energy. Fire. Light.

Duality

Duality or a bit of bi-polarism. I have been accused of being bi-polar in the past. I have trigger points that set me off.  I now understand them more as I have aged and worked on them.  Occasionally though, fear can take hold.  Given a choice today I will choose from the heart and not the mind.

Diversion

Waylaid a long the way.

I wonder how many times I have strayed from my path?  Seduced, battered and berated, intimidated, coerced  to fit in, belong, or even to do the 'right' thing.
I was out at dinner with a couple of family members last night and there came a moment of, 'who are these people? I realized that I had or have nothing in common with them. Maybe once because we share a genetic link, but really in all my days the people I have the least commonality with is my bloodline family, and if not so, I would ceased the relationships many years ago.
Looking for a fundamental shift? Found it.

Who are you; who who, who who

To thine ownself be true...

I don't often draw The Lovers or in this case Love.  I think Love was originally the name for this card and possibly more suited.  When I bought this deck I was enchanted with this card and The Star card and kept both out on my altar for long periods of time.  Something about this woman that speaks to self sufficiency and being okay with oneself.  I especially was taken with the puppy as her companion.
Many people look at this card and rush to thinking of finding true love but I think that is more the Two of Cups.  Following the Emperor and the Hierophant and their harsh disciplines I think Love and Lovers is more of healing and recognizing we are okay with who and what we are. Finding our place without the direction and control of others.   More of Self-Love.

Why ask Why

I know the old saying is 'let sleeping dogs lie' in this instance maybe sleeping lions.

The author of this deck uses the image of the lion on a number of cards.  Either her astrological sign is Leo or a Lion is her totem animal and she bears a strong affinity to the cat.  I am not sure I get this one.  Leo is the fifth sign in the zodiac and if astrological comparisons are being made maybe Virgo would have been a good choice for the Sixth Major.  Baron-Reid gives us Love and not Lovers for the title, which I believe was the original name for this Major.
If everything is in order and all things are working out, do we just go with the flow?  And why is it when we are in the flow so many times we step off the path, you know, where the lions are lurking in the tall grass?

Relationships

The companion booklet to the cards gives us The Cupids of China, the god of harmony and the goddess of union.

The card brings to mind children and life long relationships, most likely since I am thinking life long, would be siblings.  I had four sisters and two brothers growing up.  A couple of others that didn't make it and and a brother and sister that left the planet some years back. None of us got along that well as children and those of us that remain don't get along all that well in these later years.  Funny that.
Not much harmony and union then, now, and the time in between.

Mirror Mirror

I am sixty.  When I look in the mirror I look sixty and sometimes when I look in the mirror I experience a slight gasp at the reflection.

Now in my mind's eye I see the forty something Carolyn.  It is always just a wee bit of a surprise when the older version of me looks back.
I was invited to a Derby Party yesterday afternoon.  Not that many people were there, just a small gathering, and I was the youngest.  Gone are those younger days of partying, still I can find others to enjoy my time with.

Companions

The Goddess Tarot was the very first deck I bought myself.  Well actually I kind of won it.  I went to a community business fair at Indiana University Southeast years ago and entered a raffle and I won a gift certificate to a local bookstore.  A few months before this, I had sat for a reading and was fascinated with artistry of the tarot cards. So whilst browsing through the bookstore, there was this deck, The Goddess Tarot, which became my first.
I loved all the imagery; this card was my very favorite, well maybe The Star too.  I was quite taken with this image of Venus and especially her little dog companion sleeping beneath the edge of her bed.  Love comes to us in many forms.  Most seek fulfillment with another human being, yet this seductive card of Venus shows we can be happy on our own or better yet with a different sort of loving companion.
Today, may be one of those self indulgent days.  Maybe I will go to the pet store...

Words of Wisdon

I still remember one of the most major choices I made in my life.  I was fairly young, seven years old and made a decision that has shaped my life.  I remember lots of times when the path split and I had to make a choice this way or that.

I still from time to time seek divine guidance in my life.  Not sure I always get it, but it never hurts to ask.  Sometimes I get no answer and I am sure it is because I might have ignored the last advice I was given so now I have to muddle through and finish what I started.
Both these individuals have their palms open and in a questioning pose.  I think he is asking her "why not me" and she is asking something beyond, "should I or shouldn't I"
Do we give our choices away so we don't have to be responsible?  I have asked this question of myself many times.  Mostly I choose, but there are times....
This week I have seen some iconic figures in the cards and it feels like all the messages are about a choice and being comfortable or okay with my decision.  Feels like I am being given some ethereal advice.  I am being prepared, I think, for one of those major life choices.
I am grateful for the guidance and advice so I can choose what is best for me.

Be Well

My thoughts today are with a friend that is undergoing a major surgery, one that impacts her life. Sending healing energy and loving though...
