May Day

Curious to draw, The Hermit on May Day. Beltane, the invitation to get out and dance and celebrate, not hibernate.  Even the most sociable creatures need time to themselves.  Well lots of us have had that.  It is in the quiet time we can hear ourselves, listen to our higher wisdom; let the sticky bits of the expectations of others fall away.  Here in the quietness we can begin to know ourselves and that is worth celebrating.
The Hermit was one of my cards that were in my reading at the first of the year. When one of the cards from my reading show up during the year, it is worth noting.

Coming and Going

Retreat. Quiet time. Reflect.  Taking a moment or a Saturday to turn back and look at my week, or the year so far on this day forty-seven.  This week I started Sunday with the World and all my cards up to today seemed to be filled with happy and uplifting energy.  The Hermit says, "take a step away."  Evidently that is how Saturday will go for me; got up and then decided after a bit, a nap. How nice for me.   Have I mentioned, I don't care for the cold weather of Winter.  Now I can mark off another week and after today turn back towards the World and continue on till Spring. Longer days of sunlight and warmth. Rainbows and daffodils. Three more weeks till the time change and we spring forward.  Nice!

How many times do I find myself on or in the same place?  I have walked the same path so many times that the path has been worn smooth.  Is that the journey of the Hermit?  To do a thing until the lesson is completely learned?
Are we taught the same our parents were taught and then teach others the same lessons?  Is the lesson of the Hermit to do what we know or to get off the path and learn something new.

Today The Hermit seems all wrong to me.  Example and Guide.  Darkness and Mystery.

As I am trying to reconnect with the cards and the story they tell I referred to several Tarot books I have in my collection. Blah blah blah.
I don't think he is holding his light to show the way.  I think he has caged his 'light'  defeated or exhausted with the tussle in Strength and he has retreated to recoup.  He seems to be backtracking to figure out where it went awry.  He could have beat the beast with his magic wand or at released some of its magic to calm his or it's fears.
In some meditations or regressions I am told that we can go back into a memory and change its outcome to come to peace or grips or understanding of such a moment of crisis or despair.   Working on that.
Tomorrow The Hermit may appears as a wise teacher or Merlin back to play his tricks, today he looks like he needs to take a respite from it all.

I had a full post and then poof it was gone.  Maybe what I was writing was not what the card and image had to say to me.
Quite possibly now with the disappearance of my post I should consider "not over thinking" things and the card image.  And just spend some alone time in contemplation.

When the student is ready the teacher will appear.

Where is the damn light of the Hermit to help me figure it out?

When the student is ready the teacher will arrive.
I wonder who  is the teacher and who is the student? The booklet says one is The Hermit and the other is a monk.

I think of the Monk and the Hermit as interchangeable titles for a person that has withdrawn to study, to tune into the subtle energies of the Universe.  To seek to know the unknown.  I guess we can give a variety of meanings to those that take the inner path of enlightenment.  I am drawn to the donkey in the picture, with the red fringed adornment. Quite and steady and follows a path only known to the donkey.  Also with the three they are definitely placed in a downward triangle notating the unconscious mind.  Not sure about the symbolism on the Hermits lantern.  Three Hermits, three trees, and the triangle all notating the Trinity.  Mind, body, spirit...and other such interpretations of three's, including this, that, and the other.
Guess I may hear from a teacher today in whatever guise the the Hermit may be in.  Pay attention Carolyn

Thank goodness for teachers.  They take us from the home of childhood and give us a strong foundation of the possibilities of learning.
