I have not previously related the Ace of Cups with the Holy Sacrament of Communion. The cat is holding the wafer on a long string over the chalice.
In the Catholic tradition the wafer and the wine are the sacraments representing the body and blood of Christ. I was raised Catholic and after Confirmation about age six when you were supposedly old enough to make the decision to commit to the Holy Catholic Church you could receive the holy sacraments. Not sure why the cat instead of the Dove on RWS card or a Hierophant offering the blessing, but what the hey. If a blessing is being offered, some token of good luck or a bright blessing, I am all for it.
Find a penny pick it up and all day long I will have good luck.

The blood was offered to the parishioners in a big silver pan with tiny little clear very cool glass goblets. The pan went across just like the offering plates.
ReplyDeleteSo I just took one as it went by. Embarrassed my parents of course. Made me sick until my mom said it was just grape juice. The one and only time I, still a heathen, partook
We usually only received the wafer and the priests drank from the chalice and had a large wafer. Maybe all that rumored blood in chalices started the whole vampire myth with the life everlasting belief.
DeleteWould that we could live as if all of life was a sacrament rather than what is found only in churches...
ReplyDeleteIf only... I think most of the churches offer fear and isolation and self righteousness; pretty exclusionary.
DeleteThe whole ritual of the eucharist is on of thanksgiving and communion. If we strip it from dogma and powerplay, in essence it is quite beautiful I think
ReplyDeleteI still remember getting my little white dress and veil and taking my First Communion. They hoped to make a little nun out of me, but I have already done that in at least one previous life and wasn't going to do a repeat performance this time around
DeleteRaised that way too. Quite a responsibility for a six yr old, quite young age to commit! Makes me think it's all a bit like a pantomime. No harm in picking up pennies tho :)
ReplyDeleteI still have a picture of me at six in my confirmation dress and veil. The Holy Catholic Church lost me about ten years later when I told my parents enough was enough.
